In September 2025, Clarivate released the latest Essential Science Indicators (ESI) data. The global ranking of the Economics & Business discipline, spearheaded by the School of Economics and Business Administration of Chongqing University, has continued to climb. From its initial entry into the global top 1% at 475th place in May 2024, it has now risen significantly to 380th place—an improvement of 95 positions in just one year and four months. This reflects the growing international academic influence and competitiveness of Chongqing University’s Economics & Business discipline.

ESI is widely recognized as one of the key indicators for evaluating the international academic standing and impact of disciplines in universities and research institutions. A discipline’s entry into the global top 1% in ESI is generally regarded as a mark of international excellence. Since its first appearance on the list in May 2024, Chongqing University’s Economics & Business discipline has risen by nearly 100 places, fully demonstrating that the comprehensive strength of the School of Economics and Business Administration—the leading unit in discipline development—has gained broad recognition from international peers in terms of research quality, high-level paper output, and global academic influence. In recent years, the school has focused on major national strategic needs and cutting-edge theories in economics and management. It has consistently strengthened the development of high-level faculty, optimized its research framework, and encouraged original and frontier research, yielding a series of research outcomes with considerable academic value and practical impact. Key metrics such as total citations, average citations per paper, and the number of highly cited papers have all shown a steady and positive growth trend.

Moving forward, SEBA will continue to adhere to a path of connotative development, further deepen scientific research innovation, strengthen high-level academic collaboration both domestically and internationally, and continuously enhance the quality of talent cultivation and discipline development. It will strive to steadily advance the Economics & Business discipline toward the higher goal of entering the global top 1‰ in ESI rankings, contributing greater wisdom and strength to serve national and regional economic and social development.
